Tip of the Day - Sept 6 2010 from World Weightlifting Champs, Jerzy and Aniela Gregorek

How do they stay so youthful? They have developed a total health program that includes simple floor exercises, relaxation techniques, and a nutrition plan "designed to return your body to the flexibility, strength, and health of a 20-year-old."
Here are two youthfulness tips the Gregoreks share:
· Homemade antioxidant-energy balls: Combine raw almonds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, ground flaxseeds, unsweetened dried fruit (e.g., prunes, dates, figs, cranberries, apricots, apples), and 70-80% cacao chocolate squares in a blender and pulse to a coarse paste. Shape into small balls and wrap individually for a super-healthy quick pick-me-up or emergency snack.
· Sprint, don't jog: Endurance training--such as slow jogging on a treadmill or riding an exercise bike at a slight incline--will age your joints and muscles and cause you to lose muscle rather than fat. Instead, for every 10 minutes you are doing cardio, do 1 minute of fast sprinting followed by 9 minutes of walking, or 1 minute of steep, very hard pedaling followed by 9 minutes of normal pedaling.
Background: Aniela and Jerzy Gregorek are world weightlifting champions and founders and head coaches of the UCLA weightlifting team. Aniela is a 5-time World Weightlifting Champion who holds 6 world records, and Jerzy is a 4-time World Weightlifting Champion with one world record. They own a successful fitness coaching practice in LA, and have written a new book about their approach, which has helped hundreds of people achieve their ideal weight, called The Happy Body: The Simple Science of Nutrition, Exercise, and Relaxation (www.thehappybody.com), winner of six national and international awards in the category of health and fitness books.
